It can be used to make your favorite models, fishing floats, surfboard and so forth. Balsa wood also differs in grains actually. So, choose the proper balsa type to make your expected tool or model. Balsa wood is also one of the ideal materials to make table tennis paddles.
In order to make the paddle, you need to prepare things like utility knife or hobby knife, glue, pencil, paper, saw, balsa wood sheet and balsa blocks, rubber and so forth. In order to make the balsa table tennis paddle to meet the needs of ITTF, the International Table Tennis Federation.
First of all, you should select the proper balsa wood for your blade. Generally different balsa wood will result in slower or faster blades. ITTF regulations requires that athe blade must be made of 85% wood.
Second, draw the specifications of your balsa table tennis paddles down on the paper with a pencil. You are advised to draw according to the regulation of ITTF.
Third, customized your blade as much as you want to meet ITTF regulations for table tennis blades. What should you know is that one side must be covered with red rubber while another side is in black rubber. Choose a blade with either a pimpled rubber surface or a flat rubber surface. You can choose a rubber that is double layered. Use the knife to cut the balsa wood according the ideal regulations.
Fourth, find a handle that is comfortable to use. There are different handle types, like flared handles and straight handle. Frankly speaking, flared handles help get a better grip. Glue the blade and handle together to make it a complete paddle.
